AltaClaro Launches AI Tool for Deposition Practice

AltaClaro and Verbit launched DepoSim on February 18, 2026, an AI deposition simulator built for litigation attorneys in New York.

DepoSim gives attorneys unlimited, repeatable deposition practice with objective feedback — something no existing legal training product currently offers. Law firms spend heavily on actors and off-site programs that deliver practice only once, with no standardized scoring. DepoSim replaces that model with on-demand simulation available at scale.

The Core Problem

Law firms have long struggled to give junior attorneys enough deposition practice before high-stakes matters. Firms currently hire actors for one-time role-playing sessions or send associates to costly off-site training programs.

Clients are often reluctant to let junior associates handle real depositions. This creates a gap: associates lack experience, but the available training is too infrequent and too expensive to close it.

How DepoSim Works

DepoSim uses AI agents powered by text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and large language model technology. These agents play the roles of witness, opposing counsel, and court reporter inside realistic litigation scenarios.

After each session, attorneys receive detailed feedback based on a standardized training rubric. Users can repeat simulations, adjust difficulty levels, and select different case types to target specific weaknesses.

Beta Program Results

Six law firms participated in a five-week beta pilot before the public launch: Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe; K&L Gates; McDermott Will & Emery; Littler Mendelson; Taft Stettinius & Hollister; and Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck.

Partners, associates, and legal innovation professionals at each firm completed over 160 hours of testing. They also submitted detailed user-experience surveys and met directly with AltaClaro to give feedback.

The results were strong. 97 percent of participants strongly agreed DepoSim is valuable for litigation training. 94 percent said they would use it again.

DepoSim promises to supercharge simulated training through the integration of AI, and our litigators are excited to add it to our training toolkit across all levels."

One participating partner attorney called the experience "frighteningly realistic" and said the feedback was "better than I've received from attorneys." A senior associate highlighted the ability to practice without involving a real client or billing their time.

What Comes Next

AltaClaro and Verbit began their partnership at Legalweek 2025 and launched a beta version in fall 2025. The two companies combine AltaClaro's simulation-based legal training methodology with Verbit's transcription and AI agent technology.

Based on pilot feedback, the companies plan to expand DepoSim beyond deposition practice. Planned additions include simulations for commercial litigation, employment law, intellectual property, expert witness depositions, trial practice, oral arguments, client interviews, and negotiation scenarios.

DepoSim is now available to all existing AltaClaro clients and new law firm clients. ALM and Law .com recognized AltaClaro and Verbit as joint finalists for Best Tech Training Program at the 2026 Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards. This marks the second consecutive year AltaClaro has received recognition from ALM.

Both companies will appear at Legalweek 2026, running March 9–12 at the North Javits Center in New York. On March 11, AltaClaro's Shayesteh and Verbit's Chief Legal Officer JP Son will speak at a session on AI's role in litigation training, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The companies will also exhibit at booth 210.
