Anaqua Aquires Unified Patents, Merging IP Management With Patent Defense

Anaqua acquired Unified Patents, folding a membership-based patent defense organization into its IP management software platform. The deal pairs portfolio administration with proactive litigation prevention at a moment when non-practicing entity assertions and standard-essential patent disputes have climbed sharply since 2023.

The transaction reflects a broader consolidation pattern across legal technology, where standalone IP tools are being absorbed into integrated platforms. Anaqua, headquartered in Boston, already counts nearly half of the top 100 U.S. patent filers among its customers and serves roughly two million IP professionals across corporations and law firms. Unified Patents brings 14 years of aggregated litigation intelligence, prior art repositories, and claim charting capabilities built across more than 300 member organizations spanning artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, mobile communications, and other technology zones. Historically, defensive patent aggregation occupied a separate market segment from IP management software. The combination signals that buyers now expect both functions under one roof.
