BARBRI acquired Brooklyn-based Lega on June 22, 2026, to expand hands-on AI training for law students and legal professionals worldwide.

Legal education has long focused on theory. The acquisition signals a concrete shift toward practical AI competency, an area where law firms and schools have struggled to move beyond awareness into applied skill-building.

The Deal

BARBRI, a Dallas-based legal education company with nearly 60 years of experience in the field, has acquired Lega, an AI learning platform founded in 2023. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Lega has delivered hands-on AI workshops for Am Law 100 firms, legal technology conferences, and innovation summits. The Am Law 100 refers to the 100 largest law firms in the United States, ranked by their gross revenue. Lega also operates a generative AI lab used by some of the world's leading law firms for experimentation and application development.

What Lega Brings

Lega's model centers on experiential learning through workshops, simulations, hackathons, and lab-style programs. These are designed to help legal professionals build working knowledge of AI rather than simply learn about it.

In a notable project, Lega ran a Client AI Lab with Fasken, a major law firm, where both firm lawyers and client legal teams collaborated on real AI use cases. That program won the Most Inspiring Showcase Audience Award at the 2026 Skills Law Showcase.

Christian Lang, Founder and CEO of Lega, will join BARBRI as Head of Innovation. In that role, he will oversee AI skill development and readiness strategy for students and partners.

"We built Lega around a simple belief: legal professionals need safe, practical, hands-on ways to explore what AI makes possible," said Lang. "Success isn't about finding the right AI tool. It's about building the fluency, judgment, and confidence to use AI effectively."

BARBRI's Existing Portfolio

Before this acquisition, BARBRI had already built an AI learning portfolio that includes SkillBurst, BARBRI AI courses, continuing legal education through BARBRI CLE/CPE, and its Prep for Practice program. These offerings cover the full career arc, from LSAT preparation and law school support to U.S. Bar and SQE exam readiness and ongoing professional development.

Lega's capabilities will be integrated across this existing product suite to create a unified learning experience. The combined offering is intended to reach law students, practicing lawyers, law firms, and legal organizations globally.

"BARBRI has been building the AI knowledge and competency foundation for the legal profession," said Lucie Allen, Co-CEO of BARBRI. "Lega brings a highly practical model that helps learners move from AI awareness to AI fluency."

What Comes Next

BARBRI and Lega plan to expand their joint offerings to include more workshops, simulations, hackathons, and lab experiences. A stated goal is to create structured programs that bring law firm practitioners and law students together around real legal challenges, building shared AI competency across the education-to-practice pipeline.

The scale of BARBRI's global footprint, which spans learners across the United States and United Kingdom, gives Lega's model a broader distribution channel than it had as a standalone platform.

The acquisition positions BARBRI to move beyond informational AI content and into structured, repeatable skill-building at scale. How quickly firms and schools adopt this integrated model will depend on both the quality of the combined programs and the pace at which legal employers begin to treat AI fluency as a hiring standard.
