Callidus Legal AI Raises $10M to Automate Litigation Work

Callidus Legal AI announced $10 million in funding led by Cervin Ventures, bringing total funding to $13 million for its AI platform that automates litigation workflows. The McKinney-based startup addresses time-intensive legal research that typically takes junior associates a week to complete. Callidus transforms this process into 10-minute tasks with 85% completion rates through its proprietary database of over 10 million U.S. legal cases and specialized AI agents.

Goldman Sachs estimates 44% of the $1 trillion legal industry will soon be automated by AI. Callidus has tripled its recurring revenue in the first half of 2025 while serving over 1,000 customers, positioning itself as a key player in this transformation.

Custom Database Powers Anti-Hallucination Architecture

Unlike competitors relying on keyword search or generic chatbots, Callidus built its legal database from scratch. The company gathered cases from sources including CourtListener and OpenLaws, then deployed specialized agents to add detailed metadata, AI-generated case summaries, and issue-specific tagging.

This approach addresses a critical problem in legal AI: hallucinated case law that has already sparked judicial rebuke. Callidus emphasizes its anti-hallucination architecture and legal-specific reasoning to produce verifiable citations and structured documents.

"AI has advanced to the point where substantially automating legal work is no longer a question of possibility; it's a series of tough but solvable engineering challenges," said Justin McCallon, CEO and co-founder of Callidus Legal AI.

The highly oversubscribed funding round included participation from AI Fund, Myriad Venture Partners, Tandem Ventures, Active Capital, Capital Factory, and notably Am Law 100 law firm Foley & Lardner. A consortium of partners from an undisclosed top 25 law firm also participated.

Foley & Lardner operates Foley Ventures, which is structured to invest in clients. The participation of established law firms signals industry confidence in Callidus' approach.

Expansion Plans Target Full Litigation Lifecycle

Callidus expects to triple its team size over the coming months, hiring across product, engineering, customer success, and legal AI research in Texas and California. The company plans to use funding to double product development speed and launch dedicated sales and marketing teams.

The platform currently produces exhaustive precedent research, element-by-element legal outlines, and fully drafted litigation documents with citations. Outputs integrate directly with Microsoft Word for streamlined review and submission workflows.

Callidus plans to roll out new platform features throughout the second half of 2025, targeting support for litigators across the entire litigation lifecycle from research to post-trial analysis.

Callidus Legal AI is a legal technology company founded in 2023 by former M&A and restructuring attorney Justin McCallon. The company leverages artificial intelligence to automate legal research, drafting, and litigation preparation through its proprietary case law database and agentic AI infrastructure. Callidus is based in McKinney, Texas, with operations in California.
