Clio Acquires Jurisage to Boost Canadian Legal AI

Clio acquires Jurisage to bring AI-powered legal tools to Canadian law firms in 2026.

Clio, the legal technology company, acquired Jurisage, a Canadian legal AI and data firm, on June 10, 2026. The deal brings together Jurisage's structured Canadian legal database with Clio's legal work platform. Clio aims to launch its AI product, Clio Work, in Canada later this year using Jurisage's data infrastructure.

This acquisition matters because Canadian law firms have been waiting for a legal AI platform built specifically on Canadian law. Until now, no major platform combined structured Canadian legal data with end-to-end workflow tools for lawyers.

Canadian AI Adoption

Canadian legal professionals rank among the highest AI adopters globally. According to Clio's research, 60% of Canadian law firms actively encourage AI use, and two-thirds report that AI has positively impacted firm revenue.

Canada's rate of universal AI adoption ranks second worldwide, behind only Australia. Adoption rates in Canada also outpace those in the United States across nearly every legal AI use case measured.

What Jurisage Brings

Jurisage was co-founded by Aaron Wenner and Ariel Nacson in 2016. The company built CiteRight, a litigation drafting platform, alongside one of Canada's most comprehensive legal datasets.

The Jurisage database covers more than 470,000 Canadian cases across 40 or more courts and is updated daily. Its data and tools currently support some of the country's largest law firms.

Aaron Wenner, now Manager of Canadian Content Strategy at Clio, explained the significance of the move. "For a decade, we've been focused on building a trusted foundation for Canadian legal data and the tools that support it," said Wenner. "Joining Clio creates an opportunity to put that foundation to work at a much larger scale. By combining Jurisage's legal data with Clio's platform, we can build AI that is deeply informed by Canadian law and integrated into the workflows where legal professionals spend their time."

Clio Work Launch

Clio Work is Clio's AI platform designed for legal professionals to understand matters, build strategy, and draft documents. It is Clio's fastest-growing product globally and has seen strong inbound demand from Canadian firms.

Launching Clio Work in Canada required a base of trusted Canadian legal data, which the Jurisage acquisition now provides. Clio expects to launch Clio Work in Canada later in 2026.

Luke Slan, General Manager for Canada at Clio, addressed the demand directly. "Canadian lawyers need technology that's grounded in the law they practice and integrated into the workflows they rely on every day," said Slan. "That's what we're building with Clio Work, and this acquisition helps us get there faster."

Clio has described this acquisition as the first step in a long-term commitment to developing Canadian legal AI. The company has not specified a timeline for future announcements but stated that more details will be shared in the months ahead.

Clio's CEO Jack Newton noted that Canadian law firms, technology providers, and government stakeholders will be invited into the conversation as the company builds out its Canadian strategy. No further product details or partnership agreements have been disclosed at this time.
