Clio launched a new SEC filing research workflow in Vincent on April 27, 2026, giving corporate legal teams natural language access to over 30 years of EDGAR data.
Legal teams working on mergers, acquisitions, and corporate governance have long spent hours manually reviewing individual SEC filings to find risk disclosures, financial metrics, and contract language. Clio's new tool directly addresses that bottleneck by making the entire EDGAR database searchable through plain English queries.
The Problem It Solves
The SEC's EDGAR database processes about 4,700 filings per day and serves up 3,000 terabytes of data to the public annually. Despite its scale, EDGAR on its own has not been easy to search with precision. Legal teams had no efficient way to compare disclosures across companies or surface specific contract terms without opening documents one at a time.
Vincent now enables lawyers to ask questions across the full body of SEC content and receive structured, source-grounded answers in seconds. Every answer links back to the original filing, so attorneys can verify what they find before applying it to their work.
What the Tool Does
Through the new workflow, legal teams can retrieve and summarize company filings, surface key risk factors and financial metrics, and compare disclosures across companies and industries. They can also search thousands of legal agreements filed as exhibits to find how specific clauses appear across comparable transactions.
The tool is built directly into Vincent, so lawyers can move from research to analysis to drafting without switching platforms. All insights stay connected to the broader context of the work already in progress.
Dan Hoadley, Senior Director of Product at Clio, said: "For many transactional attorneys and corporate legal teams, filing research has been one of the most time-intensive parts of their day. Now, you can go from a question to a grounded answer and immediately apply that insight in your work."
Who Benefits
The workflow is designed for corporate attorneys, M&A teams, and in-house legal departments. It also serves corporate development teams that need to benchmark executive compensation, review competitor disclosures, or track sector trends using publicly available filing data.
All of this happens within the same Vincent workspace these teams already use, removing the need to switch between tools when moving from research to drafting.
Content Scope and Rollout
At launch, the workflow covers annual reports, disclosures, and a portion of transactional agreements filed as exhibits. Clio said the exhibit library will continue to expand through Q3 2026, with additional filing types and search capabilities expected later in the year.
The SEC corporate filings workflow is available now for all Vincent customers.
