Consilio Acquires icourts to Expand Australian eDiscovery Reach

Consilio acquired Australian eDiscovery company icourts on Jan. 11, 2022, expanding its local capacity for digital evidence, investigations and court proceedings. The transaction adds icourts’ customer relationships and specialist team to Consilio’s existing Australian operations. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The deal gives Consilio a larger platform in a market where legal matters increasingly involve large, distributed data sets and cross-border review requirements. Consilio had already integrated elaw in Australia and established dedicated data centres in Sydney and Melbourne. The icourts acquisition extends that footprint into electronic evidence management, forensic technology, digital court support and technology development. It also places Consilio’s Australian strategy within a wider legal technology shift: buyers are consolidating eDiscovery, data forensics, review and investigation work with fewer providers that can support matters across jurisdictions.

icourts provides services across the eDiscovery lifecycle to law firms, corporate legal departments and government organisations. Its client base includes Commonwealth prosecution bodies, New Zealand regulators, Australian federal and state royal commissions, banks and top-tier law firms, according to the companies. Consilio said the combination would give icourts customers access to broader teams, technology and delivery resources, while retaining local service and relationships under the enlarged business. The companies did not disclose the purchase price, integration timetable, revenue contribution or any changes to icourts’ leadership. Rebecca Grant, icourts’ founder and chief executive, will bring the business into Consilio’s global platform, while Consilio’s APAC and EMEA managing director Drew Macaulay described Australia as a strategic growth market.
