Definely has launched an MCP (Model Context Protocol) that lets lawyers access its contract review tools directly inside enterprise AI platforms, making specialist legal review available wherever AI-assisted drafting occurs.
The launch comes as AI drafting speeds up the volume of legal work faster than lawyers can review it. Definely's MCP addresses this by connecting its existing review tooling to enterprise AI environments, keeping accountability with the lawyer while adding a structured, repeatable layer of analysis.
The Review Tools
Definely's tools treat a contract as a structured object, analyzing clauses, definitions, cross-references, and internal dependencies. The same document produces the same results every time, giving lawyers an auditable baseline for review.
The tools available through the MCP include defined-term mapping, cross-reference validation, structural review, proofreading, and precedent search. These are the same tools already used daily by over 150 law firms and in-house legal teams, including A&O Shearman, Slaughter and May, Troutman Pepper Locke, Samsung, and KPMG.
Early Adoption
Troutman Pepper Locke is among the first firms to integrate the Definely MCP with its enterprise AI agent. Max Gladstone, Director of Innovation Solutions at Troutman Pepper Locke, said: "Our partnership with Definely and their MCP advances that effort, enabling more seamless, connected workflows across the legal technology landscape."
The firm uses an enterprise AI agent called Athena, which it describes as having near-universal internal adoption.
The Problem It Solves
In complex contracts, risks are often buried in definitions, cross-references, and clause dependencies rather than visible at the surface. By the time these issues are identified, the consequences can already be significant.
Definely's tools surface these issues through structured analysis rather than relying on manual review alone. The MCP makes this analysis accessible within the AI conversation, so lawyers do not need to switch between tools.
