Doctrine acquires Spanish legal AI platform Maite AI, expanding its European footprint to five countries with 27,000 customers.

French legal AI company Doctrine acquired MaiteAI, a Spanish legal AI platform, on February 16, 2026, marking its official entry into the Spanish market and its fifth acquisition in three years.

This deal signals a broader consolidation trend in the European legal AI space, where companies are racing to build scale across multiple jurisdictions before larger global players establish dominance.

The Deal Details

Doctrine's acquisition of MaiteAI brings its total customer base to 27,000 users across France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Luxembourg. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

MaiteAI will retain its brand, its headquarters in Spain, and its current team. Doctrine also confirmed that additional hiring is planned to support growth in the Spanish market.

MaiteAI was founded in 2024 and provides a Spanish-language AI co-pilot built to support legal workflows for legal professionals.

Despite being founded just two years ago, MaiteAI recorded significant traction in the Spanish legal market. The company grew its annual recurring revenue 20 times over in 2025 alone.

MaiteAI now serves more than 2,000 customers in Spain. The platform also achieved a 99% success rate on Spain's judiciary access exam, a standardized test used to assess competence for entry into the Spanish judicial system.

These figures positioned MaiteAI as a fast-growing player in a market that has seen rising demand for AI tools tailored to local legal systems and languages.

 
Doctrine's European Push

This acquisition is Doctrine's fifth in three years, reflecting an active expansion strategy across continental Europe. The company now has a presence in five European countries.
