Eversheds Sutherland Partners with Harvey AI

Eversheds Sutherland (International) has partnered with Harvey AI as its general GenAI legal assistant, with 350 lawyers gaining immediate access.

Eversheds Sutherland (International) announced on February 3, 2026, that it has entered a strategic partnership with Harvey AI to serve as its generative AI legal assistant. The partnership covers the firm's international operations. An initial group of 350 lawyers will access the platform immediately, with full rollout across the global business starting in May 2026.

The partnership marks a significant shift for Eversheds Sutherland, which had previously held back on adopting generative AI tools. The firm had embedded AI into products over 10 years ago, but considered GenAI legal assistants premature when they launched a few years ago. The decision follows a comprehensive trial period and reflects growing client demand for AI-powered legal services.

Trial Results

Eversheds Sutherland conducted a pilot program with Harvey AI involving over 350 lawyers and selected clients. The trial focused on four key areas: workflow automation, contract review, legal drafting, and data analysis.

The platform will operate alongside the firm's existing legal technology tools. Approximately 1,700 lawyers and trainees across the international operations will eventually have access to Harvey.

Strategic Investment

Keith Froud, Co-Global CEO and International CEO of Eversheds Sutherland, explained the firm's cautious approach to adoption. "When GenAI legal assistants were launched a few years ago, it was our view at that time that the technology had not yet reached the level of maturity required to deliver meaningful benefits," he said.

Froud emphasized that client conversations now consistently include discussions with GenAI. The firm has designated 2026 as its "Year of AI," planning to embed the technology across all client service aspects. He specifically mentioned interest in agentic AI for future strategic growth.

Platform Competition

The partnership places Harvey AI in competition with Legora for market share among major law firms globally. Both companies have received hundreds of millions in venture capital funding. Multi-year contracts with large firms represent significant revenue opportunities, as major firms typically avoid running multiple platforms with similar functions.

Gowling WLG announced in January 2026 that it would roll out Harvey across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. More than 200 lawyers at that firm tested several generative AI tools before selecting Harvey.

US Operations

Eversheds Sutherland's US operations maintain a separate approach. The firm recently established an AI-centric US Innovation Department led by Senior Director Katrina Dittmer. The US team currently uses multiple enterprise-level tools for legal research, drafting, analysis, and internal productivity, while continuing to assess emerging technologies.
