Florida Bar Offers Members Free Access to Clio Work

Florida Bar members gain free access to Clio Work, a purpose-built legal AI platform, starting later in 2026.

Clio, a legal technology company, announced a partnership with The Florida Bar, at the Florida Bar Annual Convention in Orlando. The collaboration gives eligible Florida Bar members free access to Clio Work, an AI-powered legal workspace, making The Florida Bar the first state bar in the United States to offer complimentary legal AI as part of membership.

The program responds to a specific and documented risk: lawyers using generic AI tools that lack grounding in legal knowledge, increasing the chance of errors and confidentiality breaches.

The move signals a broader shift in how bar associations approach technology adoption. With AI rapidly entering legal workflows, the absence of profession-specific tools has created measurable risks around accuracy and ethics compliance. This program directly addresses that gap.

The Program Details

Under the Preferred Bar Program, eligible Florida Bar members receive four months of full, unlimited access to Clio Work. After that period, members retain limited access for the duration of the agreement.

Members also gain access to a structured training program covering the responsible and ethical use of legal AI. The training includes both live and on-demand sessions built specifically for Florida lawyers. Members who complete the training can earn a certification in responsible legal AI use.

What Clio Work Does

Clio Work is built on a library of more than one billion primary legal documents, covering all 50 states and federal jurisdictions. The platform interprets case facts, cites relevant legal authorities, and shapes arguments based on the specific matter at hand.

As lawyers add documents, matter details, and contacts into the workspace, the tool builds a deeper understanding of the legal context. This means outputs become more aligned with the specific case and the lawyer's approach over time, rather than producing generic responses.

Generic AI tools, by contrast, carry a higher risk of producing inaccurate outputs because they lack legal grounding. Philip Rosenthal, Head of Bar and Academic Partnerships at Clio, addressed this directly: "There's a huge risk to client confidentiality and hallucinations when AI has no grounding in the law. Together, The Florida Bar and Clio offer a better path with the launch of the Preferred Bar Program."

The Florida Bar's leadership framed the collaboration as a response to both opportunity and responsibility. Sia Baker-Barnes, Florida Bar President, stated: "The Florida Bar is committed to ensuring our members have the support they need to navigate new technology responsibly. Collaborating with Clio gives our members access to legal AI that was built for the way lawyers actually work, alongside the training and education they need to use it professionally and reliably."

The benefit will become available to registered members later in 2026. Interested members can register today through The Florida Bar. Additional rollout details are expected to be shared at the 2026 Florida Bar Convention, running June 17 to 20 in Orlando.

Future Rollout

The Florida Bar partnership is the first deployment of Clio's Preferred Bar Program. Clio has stated that the program aims to expand access to trusted legal AI across all practicing lawyers in the United States. The initiative represents a shift away from the typical model of offering bar members discounts on paid products, replacing it with complimentary access as a standard membership benefit.

Clio has not disclosed how many Florida Bar members are eligible or the total number of members covered under this agreement.
