Harvey AI Becomes First Legal Tech Firm to Earn AIUC-1 Agent Certification

Harvey AI has become the first legal technology company to earn AIUC-1 certification, an independent standard for the security, safety, and reliability of AI agents. The certification, issued by Schellman as the first accredited AIUC-1 certification body, subjects Harvey's agentic platform to adversarial technical testing rather than the document-based reviews that dominate traditional compliance audits.

The milestone lands at a turning point for legal AI adoption. Law firms and corporate legal departments have moved cautiously on agentic systems, haunted by hallucination incidents, data leakage risks, and the absence of a shared benchmark for evaluating whether autonomous tools behave safely under stress. Existing frameworks like SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certify governance and infrastructure, but leave a gap: they do not probe whether a model actually resists adversarial prompts or cross-session data bleed. Harvey already holds SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, and ISO 42001 credentials. AIUC-1 fills the missing layer by testing the product itself, not just the management system around it.
