Harvey Brings Legal AI Into Microsoft 365 Copilot

Harvey, the legal AI platform, is now available as an agent inside Microsoft 365 Copilot and as a plugin inside Copilot Cowork, giving legal teams access to specialized legal intelligence directly within Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Teams.

This integration matters because legal professionals currently lose over an hour each day switching between systems just to gather the context needed to begin work. Harvey's entry into Microsoft 365 addresses that specific friction by placing legal AI inside the tools lawyers already use daily.

Inside Copilot

Legal teams can access Harvey directly within Microsoft 365 Copilot by typing @Harvey or selecting the Harvey agent from the sidebar. From there, they can ask legal questions, analyze documents, and retrieve precedent materials from Harvey Vault, the platform's centralized document repository, without leaving the Copilot interface.

Harvey Vault stores prior work product, precedent deals, and past negotiation positions. These materials surface automatically when a lawyer is reviewing a contract or analyzing a document inside Copilot.

When a task requires deeper work, clicking the source link moves the conversation into Harvey's standalone web environment. There, lawyers can access advanced reasoning tools, memo drafting, redline analysis, and argument development.

Two Key Use Cases

Two workflows illustrate how the integration functions in practice.

For contract review, a lawyer uploads an agreement in Copilot and calls on Harvey to flag non-standard terms and deviations from market norms. Harvey Vault automatically surfaces the team's prior positions on similar clauses. For deeper redline analysis, the lawyer clicks through to Harvey's full environment.

For mergers and acquisitions due diligence, lawyers use Harvey in Copilot to begin issue spotting across a document set. The system pulls precedents and comparable deals from Vault without requiring the lawyer to leave Microsoft 365. High-priority agreements can then be escalated to Harvey's full environment for analysis of liability, change-of-control, and termination provisions.

Copilot Cowork Integration

Copilot Cowork supports multi-step task execution across Microsoft 365 applications. Harvey is available as a plugin within Cowork sessions, delivering legal research, document analysis, and Vault retrieval as part of longer automated workflows.

One example involves opposition drafting in litigation. A lawyer asks Cowork to locate a relevant brief or motion from Vault. Harvey then identifies the strongest arguments in the filing, surfaces weaknesses and gaps, and drafts a counterargument outline. The output is delivered as a Word document or an email-ready outline within Outlook, all without leaving Cowork.

For document drafting, a lawyer can instruct Cowork to draft a mutual NDA between two technology companies exploring a potential acquisition, with a two-year term and a standard carve-out for publicly available information. Harvey handles the drafting, and Cowork delivers the output as a ready-to-use .docx file.

Access and Availability

The Harvey Team stated: "The goal of Harvey in Copilot isn't to add another tab to a lawyer's day. It's to eliminate the tool-switching that fragments legal work and makes every task harder than it needs to be."
