Legal Tech Weekly: AI Valuations, Launches and Partnerships Reshape the Sector

Legora is raising new funding at a $10 billion valuation, nearly double its mark from five months ago. The Stockholm-based legal AI startup closed a $550 million Series D in March at a $5.55 billion valuation. Investors including Accel, Benchmark and General Catalyst backed that round. The jump signals strong investor interest in AI tools built specifically for legal work.

Handoff Protocol

DeepJudge released an open specification called Agent Handoff Protocol on August 13. It lets lawyers carry their working context between different AI platforms instead of starting over each time they switch tools. Harvey has an integration entering beta this month, and Thomson Reuters has also signed on. The protocol addresses a common problem for firms that use multiple AI systems for drafting, research and search.

Harvey Outlook

Harvey AI launched an upgraded Outlook add-in on August 12 that can search a lawyer's full inbox and draft matter-specific replies. The feature is optional and disabled by default, requiring activation by an IT administrator. Harvey says the tool can flag messages that need attention, such as unresolved closing conditions. A user must review and send every draft; the system does not send messages on its own.
