Legora Eyes $6B Valuation in New Funding Round

Legal AI startup Legora is in talks to raise fresh funding at a $6 billion valuation, just four months after its last round, Bloomberg reported Friday.

This development signals how rapidly capital is flowing into legal AI platforms, even as Big Tech players like Anthropic move into the same space with competing tools.

Legora is finalizing a new funding round that would triple its valuation from $1.8 billion to $6 billion. The round is expected to be led by an existing investor, according to people familiar with the discussions cited by Bloomberg.

The exact amount Legora is seeking to raise has not been disclosed. The talks are ongoing, and no final terms have been confirmed.

Rapid Valuation Growth

The company has grown its valuation at a striking pace over the past year. In May 2024, Legora raised an $80 million Series B at a $675 million valuation. Just five months later, in October 2024, it raised $150 million at a $1.8 billion valuation.

If the current round closes at $6 billion, Legora's valuation will have grown nearly nine times in under a year. The company was founded in 2023, making this trajectory particularly notable for a firm less than two years old.

The fundraising news comes weeks after Anthropic, the AI safety company behind the Claude family of models, launched a new AI legal tool. The announcement rattled public markets and triggered a selloff in legal software stocks.

Legora's VP of Communications and Public Affairs, Jesper Wigardt, addressed the development directly in an interview with Sifted. "What Anthropic shipped is not a full legal AI platform," he said.

Wigardt drew a clear line between what Anthropic offers and what Legora does. "There's a meaningful difference between offering a plug-in and operating a full, robust legal AI platform," he said.

What Legora Does

Legora offers a collaborative AI platform built on top of large language models, or LLMs — AI systems trained on large volumes of text to generate and process language. The platform is designed specifically for lawyers and legal teams.

It supports day-to-day legal work including researching case law, reviewing contracts, and drafting legal documents. The platform is built to function as a full working environment for legal professionals, not a standalone add-on tool.

A spokesperson for Legora declined to comment on the latest funding reports.
