LexisNexis Launches AI Assistant Protégé in UK

LexisNexis announced the UK launch of Protégé, its personalised AI assistant designed to support legal practitioners in drafting, researching, and advising clients. The agentic AI tool can complete multi-step tasks independently and review its own output before human oversight. Following successful launches in the USA and Australia, Protégé integrates across LexisNexis products, including Lexis+ AI and Microsoft Word's Lexis Create+.

This launch addresses critical efficiency challenges facing UK law firms as legal professionals increasingly seek AI solutions to handle routine tasks while focusing on strategic client work.

Multi-Step Task Automation

Protégé uses proprietary agentic AI technology to perform complex legal workflows independently. The system drafts full transactional documents and checks its own work before submitting for human review. Documents can be edited directly within Lexis+ AI or Microsoft Word environments.

The AI assistant suggests workflow actions based on uploaded document types, such as drafting research notes or creating summaries. It dynamically generates follow-up prompts personalised to individual lawyer workflows and provides proactive query refinements.

Document Management Integration

The platform integrates with major Document Management Systems including iManage and SharePoint. This allows users to query their firm's knowledge base, extract relevant clauses and draft documents using existing precedents. Protégé can securely store tens of thousands of legal documents in its Vault feature.

Users can perform multiple AI tasks on stored documents including summarisation, drafting and research functions. The system also generates graphical timelines from uploaded documents to visualise case chronologies.
