LexisNexis opened a Customer Innovation Lab in New York, where practicing lawyers, internal engineers, and AI partners from OpenAI and Amazon Web Services co-build products from the first working session rather than reviewing them post-launch. The facility aims to compress prototype timelines from quarters to hours, with production-grade features landing inside weeks.

The launch reflects a deliberate recalibration by legal-information incumbents. Startups, including Harvey, plus Thomson Reuters' CoCounsel unit built on the 2023 Casetext acquisition, accelerated the legal AI category by shipping fast and iterating hard against lawyer feedback. Legacy providers responded by wrapping their authoritative content, like case law, statutes, citation systems, around generative models. The LexisNexis lab attempts a third path: co-development velocity paired with incumbent content depth, anchored inside its own enterprise infrastructure rather than a vendor sandbox.
