Lexroom Buys French and Bulgarian Legal AI Firms as European Expansion Shifts to M&A

Lexroom has acquired France’s Query Juriste and Bulgaria’s Praven Intelekt, taking its legal AI platform into five European markets in its first M&A transactions. The deals, announced in September 2026, give the Italian company local products, legal data and established law-firm relationships in two jurisdictions. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The transactions mark a change in Lexroom’s expansion model. The company entered Germany and Spain organically, but chose acquisitions for France and Bulgaria, where legal technology must account for national legislation, case law, terminology and professional practice. That distinction matters in legal research, where a system’s usefulness depends less on a general-purpose model than on the quality, structure and currency of jurisdiction-specific sources. Lexroom’s approach places certified legal materials at the center of its platform rather than treating localization as an interface or translation exercise. The move also reflects a wider shift in European legal technology from building individual products toward assembling scale across fragmented national markets.

Query Juriste brings nearly 300 subscribed French law firms and about 1,000 daily professional users. Its platform connects to more than five million French and European legal documents. Co-founder Etienne Le Guay will oversee Lexroom’s French operations. In Bulgaria, Praven Intelekt contributes more than 900 subscribed law firms, while co-founder Siyanna Lilova becomes Head of Central and Eastern Europe. Both founding teams will remain involved in development, and the acquired brands are expected to be folded gradually into Lexroom. The company says it now serves more than 20,000 law firms and legal professionals, employs more than 200 people and connects its technology to over 13 million legal sources. It reported more than €20 million in annual recurring revenue in summer 2026, following a $50 million Series B led by Left Lane in May and a $19 million Series A eight months earlier. Total funding exceeds $73 million.

Industry Implications

Lexroom’s strategy highlights the limits of a single legal AI product deployed uniformly across Europe. Acquiring local vendors can shorten the path to jurisdiction-specific data, customer access and regulatory familiarity, while preserving the regional expertise that large platforms may struggle to build internally. For competitors, the deals raise the value of smaller legal AI companies with proprietary content, embedded workflows and loyal law-firm bases, even when their geographic reach is narrow. Enterprise legal and legal operations buyers will have more platforms claiming cross-border coverage, but should test whether that coverage extends beyond marketing claims to source quality, update processes and workflow support in each jurisdiction. The concentration of capital around companies able to operate across multiple markets may also accelerate consolidation among vendors serving legal research, document analysis and drafting.

DreamLegal Perspective

Legal technology vendors should treat localization as an operating capability, not a language feature, and demonstrate how each market’s sources are collected, verified and maintained. Legal operations professionals evaluating cross-border AI should compare jurisdiction-level performance, ownership of underlying data and continuity of support after an acquisition. Lexroom’s next test will be whether it can integrate two local businesses without weakening the customer relationships and specialist knowledge that made them acquisition targets.
