Litera Launches AI Legal Agent Lito for Law Firms

Litera announced the launch of Lito, an AI legal agent embedded in Litera One and available in Microsoft Outlook and Word, on July 23.

The launch addresses a critical problem facing 86% of lawyers who struggle with disparate tools and inability to sort through large amounts of data to quickly answer client questions. Lito automates complex legal tasks and provides immediate insights by connecting to structured firm data through Foundation and Foundation 365.

AI Agent Capabilities and Features

Lito operates as an agentic system that coordinates multiple Litera products based on user queries. The system fires different skills in varying orders to determine appropriate answers.

Law firms handle massive volumes of client data and precedent cases that remain difficult to search and analyze quickly. Lito transforms how lawyers access their firm's institutional knowledge by enabling natural language queries across client, matter, and lawyer profiles without leaving their workflow.

"Say Litera has 10 products and each of those products has a skill on top of it. Based on the question, we can fire those skills in a different order to figure out what the answer should be," said Litera CEO Avaneesh Marwaha.

Key features include Chat with Doc Viewer for real-time document analysis, Analyze in Grid for running multiple prompts across documents simultaneously, and Compare functionality that detects changes between documents in seconds across Word, PDF, Excel, and PowerPoint formats.

Solving Data Discovery Problems

The agent addresses specific law firm challenges around matter identification and precedent research. Partners often cannot quickly determine if their firm has relevant experience in particular practice areas.

"There's a very famous story, where I'll change some of the facts, where a partner was asked, 'Have we done anything in gambling?' and the partner said no. The matter was worth $3bn and the firm had done a significant amount of work in that sector, but the partner didn't know that," Marwaha explained.

Lito enables lawyers to ask questions like "Show me the most profitable oil rights matters in the last six months" and receive immediate answers from their firm's data.

Additional Legal Workflow Integration

The system includes Review Terms for contract analysis with built-in definition lookup, Legal Skills for form checks on regulated documents, and Search Experience for natural language access to firm profiles.

Lito supports document comparison workflows for deal negotiations, allowing lawyers to quickly analyze differences between precedent documents and current proposals in grid format.
