Magnar Raises $8 Million to Expand Legal AI Across Latin America

Latin American legal AI company Magnar has raised $8 million in Series A funding to expand its platform into Brazil and Mexico and deepen operations across seven existing markets. The round comes little more than a year after the company’s launch, as Magnar says its platform now serves about 30,000 users and 350 law firms. The company did not disclose a valuation or revenue figures.

Magnar combines legal research, large-scale information analysis, document drafting and review in a single platform. It also connects with workplace tools including Microsoft Word and Outlook, positioning the product as an operating layer for routine legal work rather than a standalone research database. The company’s expansion reflects a broader push by legal technology vendors to build jurisdiction-specific AI products, where the usefulness of generated output depends heavily on the quality, coverage and traceability of underlying legislation and case law. Magnar says users can inspect the sources supporting its work, an important feature as law firms and enterprise legal departments assess how AI fits into professional judgment and risk controls.

6 Degrees Capital led the financing alongside Mexican investor Hi Ventures. FEN Ventures, Platanus Ventures and Nascent Ventures also participated. Argentine law firm Beccar Varela joined the investor group, following Chilean firm Carey. Magnar operates in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Uruguay, and plans to establish offices and commercial teams in Brazil and Mexico. The company said those two markets represent roughly 1.9 million lawyers combined, while their federal legal structures will require additional local legislation and case-law coverage. Funding will support product development, source expansion, market entry and a larger engineering team.

Industry Implications

Magnar’s round highlights the strategic value of regional specialization in legal AI. Global products can offer scale, but legal work remains tied to national rules, local precedent, language and professional practice. That creates room for vendors that assemble country-level legal information and integrate it into workflows already used by firms and legal departments.

The financing also signals that investors see distribution and trust as central competitive factors. Magnar’s reported adoption across hundreds of firms gives it a base from which to expand, while law-firm participation as investors may provide domain expertise and commercial access. Enterprise legal buyers, however, will still need to test citation quality, update frequency, data governance and performance across complex matters before broad deployment. Brazil and Mexico will provide a demanding test of whether a regional platform can scale without sacrificing jurisdictional precision.

DreamLegal Perspective

Legal technology vendors should treat Magnar’s expansion as a test of the regional-platform model, not simply a funding milestone. The company’s progress will be measured by the reliability of its local sources, the quality of its integrations and its ability to convert early user adoption into repeatable enterprise legal workflows. Legal operations teams evaluating similar tools should compare jurisdictional coverage, evidence trails and human-review controls before prioritizing breadth. Competitors will be watching whether Brazil and Mexico become growth engines or expose the operational cost of maintaining accurate legal AI across fragmented systems.
