Microsoft Legal Org Adopts Harvey AI Platform in Expanded Collaboration

Microsoft's Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) organization will run its legal and compliance work on Harvey AI's platform under an expanded collaboration announced July 23, marking a marquee in-house endorsement for the legal AI startup. The arrangement extends a relationship that now flows in both directions, with Microsoft taking on the role of both customer and infrastructure partner.
Harvey, founded in 2022 by former antitrust lawyers Winston Weinberg and Gabe Pereyra, has become the most visible commercial outcome of the generative legal AI movement. Tied closely to another provider startup ecosystem and backed by tier-one venture investors, the company has signed most of the world's largest law firms and now courts enterprise in-house departments as its second growth frontier. Its product strategy emphasizes agentic workflows that execute end-to-end legal tasks, covering contract review, regulatory research, transactional due diligence, litigation support, and shared workspaces for cross-organizational legal teams. The pitch to enterprise buyers has shifted from assistive drafting toward autonomous execution.
