Priori Legal now uses an AI agent called Scout to guide in-house legal teams from matter intake through outside counsel selection.
Priori Legal, a legal technology company based in New York, launched new AI capabilities within its Priori RFP platform on April 7, 2026, to help in-house legal teams decide where legal matters should go and what they should cost.
This update matters because legal departments have struggled to apply consistent sourcing standards when the information needed to make those decisions is spread across multiple systems.
The Core Problem
Legal teams routinely face two questions at the start of every matter: where should this work go, and what should it cost? These decisions have become harder as organizations adopt rules of engagement for sourcing legal work but lack tools to apply them consistently.
Information on law firm relationships, past billing, and lawyer experience often sits in separate systems. Without a single place to bring it together, decisions can vary from one matter to the next.
What Scout Does
Scout is an AI agent built into the Priori RFP platform. It analyzes incoming matter details and recommends a sourcing path, which may include keeping work in-house, engaging an alternative legal service provider (ALSP, a company that handles specific legal tasks outside a traditional law firm), selecting a firm from an existing panel, or launching a competitive RFP process.
Scout also recommends how AI tools should be used to complete the legal work itself. It pulls together firm profiles, lawyer histories, past matter data, and historical pricing to support each recommendation.
Once a sourcing path is chosen, Scout helps draft RFP documents, collect firm responses, and compare proposals using structured evaluation tools. The workflow runs from intake to firm selection within the same platform.
Basha Rubin, CEO and Co-Founder of Priori, explained the thinking behind the release: "The most important decisions often happen before an RFP is ever issued, when teams determine how work should be resourced. These new AI capabilities are designed to support that full process, from shaping how matters are handled to guiding RFP creation, evaluating proposals, and ultimately helping teams select the right firms."
Mirra Levitt, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder of Priori, addressed the data problem directly: "In most legal departments, the information needed to evaluate outside counsel exists, but it's often scattered across different systems. With Scout, legal teams can now bring their sourcing strategies into the decision itself, applying them with the right context when it matters most."
Platform Capabilities
Priori RFP, guided by Scout, covers four core functions. First, it moves a matter from intake to a recommended sourcing path by analyzing the details of the matter and matching them to the right workflow. Second, it applies internal rules of engagement automatically, keeping decisions in line with the organization's own sourcing policies and panel arrangements.
Third, it identifies and ranks qualified firms using integrated data that includes lawyer profiles, prior matter experience, and historical pricing. Fourth, it manages the full RFP process when competitive sourcing is needed, from drafting the request to comparing submitted proposals.
Priori states that final decisions remain with legal professionals throughout the process. The platform is designed to support the decision, not replace the people making it.
