Relativity Renames RelativityOne as AI Becomes Core to Its Legal Data Platform

Relativity has renamed its cloud platform RelativityOne as Relativity aiR, consolidating its platform and AI branding on Sept. 16, 2026. The change does not introduce a separate product for existing customers. It signals that the company now considers AI the platform’s primary operating layer rather than an added capability. Relativity said its AI tools produced more than 620 million high-value results across customer matters in 2026 through Sept. 9.

The rebranding follows a period in which Relativity aiR referred to a collection of agentic AI features embedded in RelativityOne. Relativity is now applying the name to the broader system, as legal departments extend technology use beyond traditional discovery. The shift reflects a wider move in legal technology from software that stores and retrieves matter data toward systems that interpret records, answer questions and execute portions of legal workflows.

For customers, the underlying platform remains the same, while AI capabilities stay included in existing platform pricing. Relativity said questions requiring an AI agent to read across records and reason about their contents increased 44% month over month. More than half of new workspaces created this year—57%—support matters outside litigation, including investigations, data breach response and Freedom of Information Act requests. Relativity is also testing Relativity claiR, a conversational interface for lawyers, and has expanded the platform’s reach through its acquisition of Gavel, which brings its intelligence into Microsoft Word. Model Context Protocol integrations allow external enterprise AI agents to coordinate workflows within the platform.

The name change raises the strategic stakes for legal AI vendors competing to become the control layer for enterprise legal work. Relativity’s reported results—such as productions completed in as little as 48 hours and precision rates as high as 99.8% in published customer and partner accounts—will matter less than how consistently those outcomes hold across different matters and review standards.

As AI agents move from search into reasoning and action, buyers will assess auditability, human oversight, data security and defensibility alongside speed. Relativity’s emphasis on verified professional use suggests that evidence of human validation will remain central to enterprise legal purchasing.
