Spellbook Launches AI Agent Platform for End-to-End Contract Management

Spellbook has rolled out an autonomous contract management system that handles intake, review, negotiation, and post-signature monitoring without human intervention — a departure from traditional contract lifecycle management tools that primarily organize and store agreements.

The Toronto-based legal technology company, which built its reputation as a drafting copilot inside Microsoft Word, is positioning the new platform as the infrastructure layer that puts contracts on rails from first inbound request through renewal.

Spellbook competes in a crowded contract lifecycle management market that includes Ironic Systems, Agiloft, ContractPodAi, and San Francisco-based Ironclad. Those platforms gained traction by digitizing paper-heavy contract processes and centralizing document storage. But industry analysts have long noted a gap: most CLM systems excel at organization rather than actual contract work, leaving legal teams to perform time-intensive first-pass reviews manually. Spellbook's bet is that large language models have reached a threshold where AI can autonomously handle the routine review and redlining that consumes significant in-house counsel time.
