Suited launched a lateral hiring platform on July 8, deploying a decade-old behavioral dataset covering more than 200,000 legal and investment banking professionals into a market segment that still relies heavily on headhunters. The company spent a year quietly building the product alongside a dozen unnamed firms and investment banks, bringing its talent intelligence layer, which was long applied to campus recruiting, to experienced-hire searches for the first time.
Suited's entry targets a structural inefficiency that has resisted technology's encroachment. For decades, lateral hiring in elite law firms and investment banks has funneled through retained search, with placement fees typically running 20–25% of first-year compensation. Job boards, AI-sourcing startups, and matching platforms have all made inroads in other sectors; legal has not budged proportionally. The reason, as Suited frames it, is that most tools solve identification, like finding names, rather than engagement, the harder problem of getting the right candidates to actually respond. Firms report spending hours evaluating resumes from candidates who are poor fits, while professionals at target firms are buried in cold outreach that has no bearing on their actual preferences or career trajectory.
