Thomson Reuters Launches CoCounsel Legal in UK

Thomson Reuters has launched CoCounsel Legal, an agentic AI solution for legal professionals, in the UK market on January 27, 2026.

The global content and technology company announced the expansion of its AI-powered legal assistant to the UK after a successful U.S. rollout. CoCounsel Legal combines legal research, workflow automation, document search and AI assistance in one platform. The solution features Deep Research on Westlaw Advantage and Practical Law, marking the first time this professional-grade agentic AI research capability has been made available with UK legal content.

CoCounsel Legal addresses the need for AI tools that integrate directly into legal workflows rather than functioning as separate assistants. The platform is built for litigation, transactional work and regulatory analysis. It integrates with Microsoft 365, document management systems and Thomson Reuters HighQ.

Deep Research

The Deep Research feature in CoCounsel represents several firsts for the UK legal market. Practical Law's version debuts globally in the UK, with its U.S. release scheduled for February. The new Westlaw Advantage brings the professional-grade agentic AI research capability to UK legal content for the first time.

The unified experience combines both content sets into a single platform. This delivers comprehensive results across practice areas without requiring users to navigate between systems. Deep Research generates multi-step research plans, traces its logic with transparent reasoning and delivers structured reports backed by Westlaw and Practical Law citations.

Document Review

Tabular Analysis transforms high-volume document review processes. The feature launched in beta in November and is now available in CoCounsel Legal in the U.S. Users can upload extensive collections processing up to 10,000 documents and 100 questions.

Tabular Analysis presents results in a dynamic table format that can be filtered and sorted to meet specific needs. The feature will soon be available globally with localized versions.

Platform Integration

CoCounsel Legal is embedded directly into legal work rather than sitting beside it. The platform's AI technology delivers advanced reasoning models, authoritative content, deep subject matter expertise and native integration. These components enable the system to complete complex, multi-step professional work.
