BriefCatch has acquired WordRake's product and technology assets, including twelve U.S. patents, to strengthen legal writing tools as AI reshapes law firm workflows.

BriefCatch, a legal-writing platform used by law firms and courts nationwide, completed an asset purchase of WordRake's core product and technology assets on February 12, 2026. The Washington-based company acquired a portfolio of twelve U.S. patents and WordRake's patented editing algorithms. The acquisition unites WordRake's sentence-level clarity technology with BriefCatch's document-level legal analysis.

Law firms increasingly demand specialized tools that enhance writing quality while preserving attorney control amid growing AI adoption. The merger addresses this need by combining two established approaches: WordRake's editing precision with BriefCatch's analytical capabilities for structure and persuasion.

Deal Details

The transaction brings together WordRake's in-line editing technology with BriefCatch's AI-assisted document analysis. WordRake has served legal and professional writers for more than a decade since its 2012 launch. BriefCatch's platform is currently used by tens of thousands of law firms, courts, agencies, and legal professionals.

WordRake will remain fully supported for existing customers. The product will continue operating within Microsoft Word and Outlook. All existing licenses will be honored.

Product Integration

The two platforms will operate separately in the near term. BriefCatch has established a clear roadmap for future integration. WordRake's technology helps writers identify unnecessary words and tighten prose directly within their existing workflow.
