Wordsmith Expands Enterprise Access Controls Across Its Legal Technology Platform

Wordsmith has made a new set of enterprise access controls available to all customers, widening participation in legal work while giving administrators more ways to govern permissions. The update adds role-based access, team structures, approval workflows for restricted matters and controls for connected systems. It comes as legal departments try to move more requests into digital workflows without giving every employee unrestricted visibility.

The change reflects a broader shift in legal technology from tools built primarily for lawyers to platforms used across the business. Wordsmith positions its product around contract review, drafting, research, repositories, reporting and intake, with integrations that include Microsoft Word, Slack and Microsoft 365. That scope creates a practical challenge: sales, procurement, finance, human resources and outside counsel may all need to interact with legal processes, but they do not need the same authority or access. For legal operations teams, permission design is therefore becoming part of workflow design rather than a separate administrative task.
