Clifford Chance Builds Custom AI Knowledge Platform With Microsoft & Epiq Advisory

Clifford Chance has launched a custom AI knowledge management platform built jointly with Microsoft and Epiq Advisory, consolidating more than 400,000 internal documents into a permission-controlled repository designed for generative AI deployment. The Magic Circle firm described the system as an extension of a long-running collaboration with Microsoft, now engineered into a bespoke knowledge layer tailored to legal work.

The launch reflects a pattern accelerating across elite law firms: rather than licensing off-the-shelf legal AI tools, firms are commissioning their own stacks atop hyperscaler infrastructure. Clifford Chance was among the first global firms to roll out Microsoft 365 Copilot, and the new Knowledge Bank builds on that deployment. Epiq Advisory for Law Firms served as the systems integrator and contributed a proprietary feature, Permissioned Search, that governs document access at the metadata level, a critical concern for firms handling matters under client-mandated confidentiality walls.
