iManage has updated its Insight+ platform to tackle AI governance gaps affecting law firms and professional services organizations.
The Chicago-based company announced the enhancements on March 5, 2026, targeting a specific and growing problem: AI tools are being used across organizations without the structured, governed context needed to produce reliable outputs. The update aims to connect documents, business data, and metadata within a single governed platform.
AI adoption in legal and professional services is accelerating, but governance infrastructure is not keeping pace. The gap between deploying AI and managing what it accesses has become a compliance and operational risk.
The Governance Problem
iManage's own research puts numbers to the problem. According to the iManage Knowledge Work Benchmark Report 2026, 36% of organizations have already experienced document policy violations tied to AI usage.
Only two-thirds of organizations have centralized storage and formal governance controls in place. Meanwhile, a quarter of employees are using publicly available AI tools with limited oversight.
This has led to content fragmentation across AI assistants, chat histories, and external databases. The fragmentation creates gaps in what AI systems can access, understand, and govern.
What Insight+ Now Does
The updated platform introduces four active capabilities and one in development. Enterprise-scale metadata indexing enriches content with related data from external systems, making it easier for both humans and AI agents to find and use. Knowledge Discovery and Matter Analytics lets users identify precedent across document management systems and compare matters using commercial terms and matter profile data.
Data Warehouse Integration connects structured business data about matters, clients, and personnel with unstructured content. This removes the need to store knowledge across multiple systems outside the governed platform.
Multi-Region Deployment allows organizations to maintain data sovereignty and regulatory compliance while keeping content discoverable across the organization.
A fifth capability, Expertise Discovery, is currently in development. It will surface expert knowledge based on demonstrated work product and matter involvement, connecting questions with verified expertise rather than just surfacing documents.
Neil Araujo, CEO of iManage, addressed the core problem the update solves.
"Organizations aren't struggling to access AI. They're struggling to ensure AI can interpret their knowledge correctly," said Araujo. "Insight+ addresses this by strengthening the context and connectivity of content already centralized within the iManage platform, enabling firms to improve knowledge quality, strengthen discovery, and deliver more reliable AI outcomes without compromising governance."
The update also complements Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations. MCP refers to a standard that allows AI tools to access external content sources. iManage states that by ensuring content accessed through AI ecosystems is structured and governed, Insight+ improves the reliability of downstream AI interactions.
Industry Context
The Benchmark Report also found that 72% of organizations are extremely or very likely to implement new document management solutions within two years. The majority are already piloting AI initiatives. However, persistent issues, including poor data quality and unclear use cases, continue to slow progress.
These findings indicate that organizations need solutions that deliver immediate value from content they already have, without pushing them toward systems that fragment governance further.
iManage will demonstrate the Insight+ updates at Legalweek, held March 9 to 12 in New York City at booth 116, and at the British Legal Technology Forum on March 10 in London at booths A24 and A2.
